1.Tenses and use

Find the passive forms of sentences 1-4 in the reading text on page 60-61. Why are passive forms used in the text?

1- They auditioned him.
He was auditioned by producers.
A él se le hizo una prueba por los productores.

2- Cameras were recording him.
He was being recorded by the cameras.
Él estaba siendo grabado por las camaras.

3- Somebody had created an official Nasubi website.
An official Nasubi website had been created.
Una página web oficial fue creada.

4- People will produce more shows.

1.Tenses and use

A. Is each sentence active or passive? Which sentences do not sound narural?

1-a) I didn't hear the news. Active
b) The news was not heard by me. Passive. Not sound natural

2-a) The programme hasn't been shown on TV before. Passive.
b) TV companies haven't shown the programme on TV before. Active.

3-a) That film will be nominated for an Oscar. Passive
b) People will nominate that film for an Oscar. Active.

4-a) Thanks, Paul. We had a great time at your party! Active
b) Thanks, Paul. A great time was had by us at your party! Passive. Not sound natural



B. Complete the sentences with the passive form of the verbs.

1- Contestants are chosen because they are good-looking.

Step by step

3. Complete the steps for transforming the active sentence (A) to passive (B).

Identify the object of the active sentence.
The object of the active sentence becomes the subject in the passive.
Identify the tense of the main verb.
Use the same tense of be + the past participle of the main verb.
Does the sentence need an agent.

How can you transform passive sentences into active sentences?
To change a passive sentence into an active one, follow the steps above, but in reverse.

A. Transform the sentences from active to passive. Omit the agent if possible and put the bold expressions at the end of each sentence.

1.The TV was invented by John Logie Baird in 1924.
2.The winner will be announced today.
3.The others was written and directed by Alejandro Amenábar.

5.Too much time watching TV is spent by people.
6.Children are affected by violent programmes.

B. Transform the senteces from passive to active.

A Write the words in passive sentences 1-5 in the correct order.

1- This watch was given to my grandfather.

B Transform each active sentence into two passive sentences.

(Do not include by + agent)

1- The ball was passed to Beckham. / Beckham was passed the ball.

4- The job has been offered to him. / He has been offered the job.
