Step by step

3. Complete the steps for transforming the active sentence (A) to passive (B).

Identify the object of the active sentence.
The object of the active sentence becomes the subject in the passive.
Identify the tense of the main verb.
Use the same tense of be + the past participle of the main verb.
Does the sentence need an agent.

How can you transform passive sentences into active sentences?
To change a passive sentence into an active one, follow the steps above, but in reverse.

A. Transform the sentences from active to passive. Omit the agent if possible and put the bold expressions at the end of each sentence.

1.The TV was invented by John Logie Baird in 1924.
2.The winner will be announced today.
3.The others was written and directed by Alejandro Amenábar.
4.His diaries have been published recently.
5.Too much time watching TV is spent by people.
6.Children are affected by violent programmes.
7.Illegal videos were being sold at the market.

B. Transform the senteces from passive to active.

1.The TV company has invited us to the studio.
2.Spanish teenagers wrote this documentary.
3.U2 composed the music.
4.A lot of people recorded the series.
5.MTV is broadcasting this concert.
