My family had given me birthday cards at breakfast, but none of my friends had remembered by the time school finished.

As I walked out of school, I was feeling a little disappointed. I was eighteen, but I didn’t feel special.

Later, I was walking home with my girlfriend when she said that she wanted to go into a café because it was raining. As we walked in, I wasn’t really looking at the people. At first, Jess didn’t say anything, but then she pointed at them. As soon as I looked at them they all shouted, “Surprise”!.
