5. Complete the text with the correct adjectives. Then listen and check
your answers.

Clothes were conservative in the 1950's. They weren't particularly
interesting, but they were practical. People chose to wear plain
designs rather than patterns. Baggy clothes weren't fashionable for women-
skirts and jackets were tight-fitting.

Things were different in the 1960's and 1970s. Bright colours and patterned
clothes were popular. Fashions and attitudes were more casual. People wanted to
feel comfortable in their clothes.

Since the 1970s, fashion designs on the catwalk have sometimes been strange and
shocking, but impractical clothes aren't usually popular. People prefer to wear
simple things.
